Northbrook Online

Yay, the last post on Northbrook 8! As it stands right now, the northbook.info home page reads a little like a gossip column (look at how the police blogger integrates). Maybe I'm a throwback, but I always marval at how awesome it is to be able to accesss the card catalog online (every patron should know this!) I just can't wait to interface with a virtual librarian via a 'matrix-like' user interface!

wikis

Most of the information we obtain is based on the idea that someone is not actively trying to deceive us. Hopefully, active involvement in wiki-type pages were deter individuals from deceiving people through false ideas (through active management). I love that multiple people who are interested in something can all contribute to idea (to a wiki-page) rather than a set group which could get kinda stale (think book encyclopedias). Wikis could be a great tool for different library departments by allowing patrons to better understand how we categorize the information we have (with explanations!).

del.icio.us

Love this site! However, Del.icio.us does seem to clash with my usual laziness when it comes to looking over web pages. Something about this site seems to remind me of the old unix days (which were not fun days!). Isn't there something Del.icio.us could do to improve its' user inface? Our website could use Del.icio.us to use inform patrons of sites that could improve their library experience (or learning).

social networking

While myspace seems to be fading, facebook seems to be integral to the internet landscape. It's important these days to have a presence on these sites so people can get 'truthful' dirt on you. who knows, maybe twitter will replace facebook soon!

flickr

Flickr is a great resource. I remember the days when you had to search hard to free sites to hold your photos. I feel the library could use Flickr to stores images of fliers and cool book covers. I'm hoping Flickr technology can integrate with twitter soon! I would use the tags 'books' and 'multimedia' for the library.
